How to Train Your Dragon 2, Toothless + Funko Pop Vinyl Figure
I decided my first blog will be about my favorite character this month, from the best animation sequel I've seen so far: How to Train Your Dragon 2's lovable night fury, TOOTHLESS!
After I saw the movie, I was mind blown O.O
The animation scenes in the movie were moving and beautiful, down right SPECTACULAR. The story line was also kept true and progressed nicely from the first installment, not too mention its lovable (if not now even more lovable) characters. But the center of my attention was really on Toothless. I've been a fan since the first movie, but I thought that this adorable character matured into the best of loyal and brave dragons. And no need to mention, but tears were definitely shed T.T

SPOILER ALERT
I fell in love with Toothless, because he is all playful, caring, and powerful plus he trusts his human kin, Hiccup with his life. I was anxious in the scenes were Toothless was mind controlled to attack Hiccup, accidentally killing Hiccup's father, and then shooed away by his best friend. All I can think of in my head is, "Hiccup, you better get him back." And he did! Favorite scene was when Hiccup claimed him back, staring right into Toothless's eyes telling him that he is his best friend (I was crying through tissues at this point). Even after I left the theater, I still felt the excitement, me rooting for Toothless from my seat as he courageously challenged the Wildebeest (another awesome dragon, btw) to protect the people he loved. The story line really hit the mark for me. A natural and mutual growth of the two main characters; Hiccup ascend as chief, while Toothless also becomes Alpha, well more of a Dragon President. Trust and loyalty that is earned, not enforced by mere fear. I can't wait for the 3rd movie, but honestly I'm expecting nothing less than AWESOME.

Getting Toothless Funko Pop Vinyl Figure So I was completely hooked on Toothless, and I knew I needed to get my hands on some sort of Toothless figurine. And so I went ahead and checked the local toy stores they had here, Toys R Us, Simply Toys, Toy Outpost, and toys sections of most department stores. Some had the DreamWorks figurines and plush dolls, but unfortunately I thought they were poorly painted, flimsy, and overpriced. I was really looking for something more solid and that did some justice to the actual character. Afterwards, I was watching one of my favorite Youtuber, Chad Alan reviewing the Toothless Pop Figure he got. And I knew then I wanted one. So to Ebay I surfed. Finding one was not a problem, the challenge was to get one that ships to Singapore and at a reasonable price. But I finally got mine (the store that I got it from recently sold out afterwards). I got the normal Toothless, not the exclusive Hot Topic one that had a shimmery outer coating. It was definitely a bit of money, but I found it worth it, since I just could not find this any where else here. |
I'm overall super happy with this figure :)
It is super adorable and the details is true to the Toothless from the movie. Although I have to say, most of all these figures will come with a bit of spots or defects on their paint jobs, but nothing too severe that will ruin the features and look of the figure as a whole. I put Toothless on my desk, under my reading lap, and it looks pretty cool. So I would definitely recommend any Toothless fan to get this Pop figure.

Taking Inspiration from Toothless
I feel pretty inspired with Toothless. The animators definitely did an awesome job with him. And I get the association people get between him and a cat. He likes the catnip plant, he chases after point laser lights, he is feline like in form, and he hides his teeth just as a cat might hide its claws, until they need them. I think Toothless and many of the dragons in How to Train Your Dragon movie can serve as a great inspiration for the imagination. The exploratory nature of the movie, gives many possibilities to other lands and discoveries of many other dragons. |
So here is my first creation. I was thinking of going a tone lighter than the dark, pitch black night fury, and going for a slender and watery cousin of Toothless. I imagine this dragon to be both mysterious and ghost like in nature and ability. It is rarely seen, since it lives in the depths and only rises occasionally, presumable, to hunt for food. It has never been caught or reported to attack humans.
So the inspiration of this also came from my prediction (or more like guesses) of what's to come from the third movie. First off, I truly hope that next movie will still focus on Hiccup, Toothless, and the gang --not the next generation of dragon riders. My hope is that it will revisit Toothless's past and origin. Answering questions such as: Why was Toothless living in solitary? Is he really the last of the night fury? My guess is his kind might be hiding off somewhere to protect themselves from the excessive dragon hunting. The story might progress to whether Toothless (once rekindled with his kind), stay loyal to humans or to his family. Furthermore, I have a suspicion, that Drago is still alive! Plus I think his fire proof cape somehow came from a night fury. I have a bucket full of plot possibilities in my head, and I can't wait to see what plays out next.
But honestly, Dreamworks Animation is truly remarkable! I am a huge fan and I am thankful for Toothless. Finally an awesome and cute dragon is here, an all time favorite character!
